[mv] string matching problem

I ran into a problem with string matching, when string has a "/" in it.
Here's the line that does the match:
[if scratch selCategory =~ /^[sql-param name]/i]
I cannot strip the "/" because it is used as part of navigation -- when
it is written to the page, it is used as part of URL, however, before
it is written to the page, I am running a comparison on it.
I would very much appreciate help on this.
