[mv] Newbie and DBI problem please help

Hi,

I am having a problem connecting to MySQL via socket from minivend 4 and
wondered if
someone who knows how the sockets work could give me a few pointers to
overcome the problem ?

When trying to connect the error message that's generated is:

Configuring catalog simple...
Using MySQL for databases, DSN=dbi:mysql:test_minivend.

simple config error: DBI connect failed: Can't connect to local MySQL
server through socket
'/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock'  (111)
simple: error in configuration. Skipping.
simple: config error. Skipping.
MiniVend server started in INET and UNIX mode(s) (process id 7548)

Unfortunatly not knowing how the socket works (or DBI for that matter)
makes it very difficult to workout what's wrong.

If this is covered else where I would be gratefull for a pointer to it
