[mv] Importing text files to SQL database converts some characters to dots (e.g. §)
****** message to minivend-users from Sakari Ailus <sakari.ailus@nic.fi> ******
Hi.
When Minivend 4.04 imports text files to SQL database, it translates
some characters to dots (.). These are characters such as ö, ä and å,
(everything >= 128 I think) and some other characters too (e.g. §-sign).
Minivend 3.14 doesn't do this.
I took $VENDROOT/lib/Vend/Data.pm and $VENDROOT/lib/Vend/Table/* from
Minivend 3.14 to Minivend 4.04 and with small modifications got Minivend
starting almost fine and importing text files correctly. (Normal SQL
searches caused some ugly uninformative errors and I think this might be
a bug in Minivend 4.04, which is why I'm writing this.) I couldn't find
out what in those files does the "translation".
Other relating software I'm using (haven't changed between Minivend's
versions): Debian GNU/Linux 2.1, Perl 5.005_03, DBI 0.92, DBD::Pg 0.73
and PostgreSQL 6.3.2. I know DBI and DBD::Pg modules are fairly old but
as they work fine with Minivend 3.14 I haven't updated them.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Thanks,
