[mv] how to call a program from minivend/perl ?

hi,
i would like to call a C program from my minivend pages to retrieve some informations.
these informations are returned on standard output by the C program.
I called it with the command exec or backstick under perl scripts,
but the minivend security is too high and the only means I found to call my program from my minivend pages is the system command. And this perl command doesn't return the standard output as the other did.
please could you have some tips for me or have you already faced this problem ?
