Re: [mv] Newbie and DBI problem please help
****** message to minivend-users from Oldarnie <ecommerce@a-dream.com.au> ******
Hi,
Thanks for the reply, the answers to your questions follow:
1) is mysqld running? Yes
2) if you su to your minivend user can you run "mysql test_minivend"?
Yes and No Clarification follows:
If I su minivend and run "mysql test_minivend" the command fails and produces the
can't connect through socket error, however if I exit back to root and run the
command "mysql -u minivend test_minivend" it works.
I think I understand what is happening but am unsure how to correct it.
I thought MySQL users were not the same as standard linux users i.e. you could be
xyz user under linux and connect to mysql as abc user as long as the privileges were
set to allow abc access.
I have set the privileges in mysql to allow "minivend" full access and when I run
the command "mysql -u minivend test_minivend" from "root" or any other user the
command works.
If I run the same command from the user "minivend" (linux user) the command doesn't
work.
This is very confusing
I have other users to the minivend group, and I have added minivend to the groups of
the other users, and set the file and directory permissions to allow members of the
users group full access.
So, the question is:
How do I get to run the command "mysql test_minvend" to work when I have su to
minivend???
or any other linux member for that matter that minivend has been set up to run
under?
Once I know the above I can start to work on getting a catalog to work
Thanks in advance
Oldarnie
