While I appreciate the attempt to send me in the proper direction, I was
hoping for a little more help. So let me be specific.
After unzipping, the next instructions are:
< On UNIX, you perform the normal Perl installation method:
<
< perl Makefile.PL
< make
< make test && make install
<
< Replace the perl with the proper path to your Perl 5.005 or higher binary.
What does this mean? Am I to edit the Makefile.PL file with the proper path
to Perl (such as /usr/local/bin/perl) then upload via FTP to my cgi-bin?
< You will be asked for the directory where you want to install MiniVend --
any directory will do. The defaults are:
<
< Installed as root: /usr/local/minivend
< Installed as user: ~/mvend
<
< NOTE: ~ is shorthand for your home directory.
I will be asked for this directory? When? I don't see anything asking for
the directory in the MakeFile.PL file.
I could go on, but am guessing you get my point by now. Are these directions
for installing a program via FTP, or are these instructions for Telnet or
some other means?
I didn't expect this program to be an easy installation, but I AM used to
being told to make certain directories, give certain permissions to files and
directories, and what to upload where. I could venture some guesses, but
given the complexity of the program, this obviously isn't wise for someone so
inexperienced with this kind of program.
If someone could PLEASE tell me what I'm not understanding, I would very much
appreciate it.
