RE: [mv] DB to SQL

****** message to minivend-users from "Cameron B. Prince" <cameron@akopia.com> ******

Hi Chris,

The thing to do is just create the database. No tables.

I usually then create a specific user for the catalog and grant access to
that database.

The user will need Select, Insert, Update, Delete, Create, Drop, File, Index
and Alter privs.

Then edit either catalog.cfg for Minivend or catalog.cfg/variable.txt for
Interchange.

Define the following:

SOMESQL
MYSQL
SQLDNS
SQLDB
SQLUSER
SQLPASS

The default db definitions can be found in catroot/mysql or
catroot/dbconf/mysql

Upon a restart after configuring the above variables, these definitions will
be read along with the corresponding .txt files in the products directory.

Minivend/Interchange will create the tables and import the data into them.
Then create empty .sql files in the products directory indicating a
successful import.

You should be able to test your site and order something then.

Good luck,

Cameron

I've never actually used SQL before but I've decided to migrate one of
the sites I've created from the db format to SQL (I have setup and
maintained MySQL and msql but never used them for my own purposes).
Assuming I have the SQL tables created correctly should the site simply
'work'? Will I need to rewrite the searches that I have created?

I have been sticking with DB so far because they only had around 1000
items but they'll be doubling that in the next month and then ramping up
to 4000 soon after that. I'm thinking SQL might make it a little less
wobbly. :)
