no clue for the no strict 'refs' to be honest, I just took the idea from the root_parse_dir_array above it hehe, my Perl hat is not really on at the moment.

Ok for the my $val, I can change the patch .... will see if I can actually test it as well, currently my dev environment is a bit up in the air.
