Not as things are right now. One would have to change things in too many places. We would need to build a 'Localization Manager/Wizard' See below. > > > > 2. Product database structure. One only needs to update data that differs from the default language. [snip] > > c. Separate tables *not in ProductFiles* with product > > description information. We also need the think about the 'product specs' file. An extra file containing additional product information. Maybe we could use this file for localizing the description as well. > > > > There may be more that others can think of. > > > > 3. Pricing -- should we provide easily selectable ability to > > maintain separate prices for each currency or should we > > concentrate on PriceDivide. I guess both would be doable. When choosing option 2b for products table (separate tables with fallback fields) this could easily be done. Use PriceDivide only if the price field is empty in both tables (default and localized table). One could override this behavior by a config setting in Catalog.cfg (PriceDivide_Always = yes) or by setting a scratch variable. > > > > 4. Checkout forms -- should we build a different form for each > > locality, or try and do one big form? > > > > 5. I prefer to use [L CODE]The text[/L] This way it's easy to change the default text without messing up the 'key' in the locale table. Possibly we could make a kind of 'Localization Manager' to easily manipulate the text for different locales. This manager could also have functionality integrated into it to generate completely localized pages. Similar to static page building, but only for localization (and put them in a pages_i18n directory). This would reduce parsing time. The [LC] could be used for 'very' large text blocks. Better don't use it for small text messages as maintenance will become labor intensive. I use the [L] text [/L] method. Can you help me with a few other questions since I am running out of time to figure them out and the Interchange 4.8 books are a bit short on examples. 1- In the login.html page, I added the translation tags: The translation looks fine but then the New account button (Nouveau compte) doesn't work anymore after it is translated. If I add the following it works again but then the Log In branches to New Account also. Do you have a solution for this problem? 2- How would you pass a language parameter from a html page to the CGI program? 3- On page 254 of the Development Guide the PageDir directive refers to a relative directory for each language. What is relative to? 4- Where do the [LC]...[/LC] translations go. I tried to put them in the page but this does not work. Some would argue there is also a 'South American Spanish' as well. Regardless, there are enough differences to warrant two listings in the menu. But I don't have time to translate everything now. To translate the UI, ask for the documents or use the Spanish sample above. See also the README above. You have to create a translation file with name fr_FR.cfg containing all translations and publish a manifest. See in CVS how to do this. CVS is the development site accessible from the download page of Interchange. Hope this helps. These files were made by Murahasi(murahashi at ayayu.com) and we work togehter for using interchange with Japanese. Second, about using Japanese ... Japanese have some character encodings like JIS, SJIS(Shift JIS), EUC, UTF-8 and so on. And we need to manage dbl-byte character encoding in interchange, 'cause of displaying japanese on web or insert it DBs correctly. For manage japanese strings, we usually use Jcode.pm or jcode.pl library. With them, we need following, i. configuration for defining character encoding for each internal(for Perl), external(for HTML), DB. ii. convert character encoding when - describe HTML with for define "charset". ex) - get some strings from
action. - insert strings into DB or any files including japanese strings. First of all, I have started to try to apply these functions in interchange. If you have advise, pls let me know it. Otherwise, any other dbl-byte languages, Korean or Chainese have no problem? if any, pls let me know. Regards, Cozy -- Hiroyuki Cozy Kojima Red Hat Japan, Inc. Fine, thanks for your work. There is a problem though. The locale can not be loaded into Interchange. This is usual due to a missing comma or ". But we have a different problem. You are using special Perl characters like $ all other the place. So the translated strings need to be quoted with '' or another sufficient Perl operator. I suggest to start with a little set and try to load them into Interchange, then adding more and more stuff until you succeed. If you need help on this, just ask. Just kept the wizard section out of that, and the internal parts editable in mv_metadata area of Table Editor. As you can see, the de_DE.cfg file presents 2298 lines, while the pt_BR.cfg holds 3059 lines. The problem is that these new entries need language tags [L], that are missing in the content and variable setting, inside the template files. I've made the several modifications, but I'm not sending them at this time, don't know if you and Stefan Racke would like'em, please let me know if. Best regards, Jack Tsai. PS.: all the modifications have been made by myself, Jack Tsai ( jack at 3light.com.br ) , greatly aided by technical orientations from Pablo Costa ( pablo at 3light.com.br ), both from 3Light Technologies Ltda. here in Brazil. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
