Being one of them Spanish, I have added the following line to catalog.cfg: Locale es_ES HTMLsuffix es_ES And have created a set of html templates with the suffix es_ES replacing html. However, it does not work. I am still getting the default pages when going to ...shop.ic/process/locale/es_ES/page/index What am I doing wrong? I am a newbie and know little about interchange, but as for the documentation, I believe this is what has to be done. With currencies and other words, everything is ok, as I have edited locale.txt and made the appropriate changes for each locale. Any help will be much appreciated. I am currently translating a shop into Spanish, and shortly will do it into Italian and French, with Portuguese and German in a longer term. I have been evaluating the possible different methods, and creating a locale.cfg for each language, as suggested by Michel seems to be the most effective. Though you can create different html sets for each locale, I don't think it is really necessary, unless you really want to change the design of the shop to be different for each audience. What you might indeed use is the ImageDir in case you want to create a different set of images for each language. For the ImageDir, create a line like this in locale.txt: ImageDir /shop/images/de/ /shop/images/fr/ /shop/images/es/ /shop/images/it/ /shop/images/pt/ Or course you should have defined each locale at the beginning of the file: code en_US de_DE fr_FR es_ES it_IT pt_PT For the PageDir, in case you decide to use it, line I added was: PageDir de fr es it pt Being de fr es it and pt directories created within the shop directory (/var/lib/interchange/catalogs/shop/) where a copy of the default html set would be placed. For the tags to be used, in templates you must use [msg]word to be translated[/msg] and [L]word to be translated[/L] in html pages. When you create tha locale.cfg for each locale (es_ES.cfg, fr_FR.cfg, etc...), an entry like this would have to appear in each locale file to have the pages translated when using the correct locale: Locale es_ES < To: Sent: Sunday, 10 February, 2002 02:30 Subject: Re: [interchange-i18n] Help, please > =================== > Being one of them Spanish, I have added the following line to catalog.cfg: > > Locale es_ES HTMLsuffix es_ES > > And have created a set of html templates with the suffix es_ES replacing > html. > ------------ > Well, I have found myself a solution: > > First, since I have the locale.txt database, it seems that this should have > been placed there, not in the catalog.cfg > > Anyway I have tried the PageDir key and it seems to be cleaner (a separate > directory for each language). That would be great if you could make your translations available. Actually, I was hoping that you might also be able to point me in the right direction for how to get started with setting up a multi-language site. I want to allow my customers to select their language of choice and also their currency of choice. So, for example, someone could select French as the language and the British Pound as the currency. I've read the Internationalization sections in the Template manual, but I still don't quite understand what you have to add to the code to get this to work. What's important is that: 1. I want each language to have its own db for the navigation and other standard words. 2. I would like each language to have its own mysql table for the product descrips, options, etc. I might have up to six languages fully translated throughout the site. Many thanks for any help. -- _______________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup Win a ski trip! http://www.nowcode.com/register.asp?affiliate=1net2phone3a From david.nommensen at iorenergy.com Wed Feb 13 19:48:01 2002 From: david.nommensen at iorenergy.com (David Nommensen) Date: Wed Feb 13 19:48:01 2002 Subject: [interchange-i18n] Interchange Templates? The comment field contains: [data table="products" column="[L]comment[/L]" key="[item-code]"]
SECOND TEST: [setlocale es_ES] TEST: the name of the field is [L]comment[/L]
The comment field contains: [data table="products" column="[L]comment[/L]" key="[item-code]"]

I have come to a new problem that might be solved with something like this: DescriptionField is good, but only applies to the [item description] tag. Now, for some parts of the shop, the item description is retrieved by [item-data products description]. Of course it ignores DescriptionFiled. I have devised to fix this with something like [L][item-data products description][/L], and creating [item-data products description_es] in es_ES.cfg. Now, this works for html templantes, but is useless for components, where the [L] tag does not work. I have tried there [msg] and [loc], but to no avail, since those tags are parsed after [item-data products description], NOT before, as it happens with [L]. Is it any known elegant solution for this, other than creating a list of translations for descriptions in the es_ES.cfg file? Hopefully it is, and someone will know it.... I have just tried, as with the [language-field products comment [item-code]] tag, UserTag language-field Order base field code UserTag language-field Routine <{mv_locale}; if ($locale) { $data = $Tag->data($base,"${field}_$locale",$code); return $data if $data =~ /\S/; } $Tag->data($base,$field,$code); } EOF and then used this tag instead: [language-field products description [item-data products sku]], replacing the original [item-data products description]. The result is that the tag itself is shown in the resulting html page, instead of the item description. Also, which is the best advised method to localise the category_vertical components. I am doing it with the [loc] tag, however, I understand it can be done too with the [msg] tag. Which one is recommended? Best regards, Francisco PS. I think that I will have finished the translation into Spanish this week. Of course it is a customised translation, but in case anyone is interested, I will send or post the es_ES.cfg, removing the most customised sections, but still leaving a good deal of translations. Basically yes, but only a few ones will result into output for the user. The above one appears only in the logfile usually with 4.8.3. Please use interchange-i18n for discussions about translations and related stuff. Ciao Racke -- Think of it ! I must be doing something wrong... this is how I implement it in the cart_tiny component and get no results: [item-list] [item-next][item-modifier mv_si][/item-next] [item-filter 20][language-field base=products field=description code="[item-data products sku]"][/item-filter] [item-quantity]@[discount-price] [/item-list] Shouldn't it be this way? Besides being more clean it has the advantage to be useful in user tags: UserTag demo Routine <parse_locale($out); } EOF I suppose this will help us in several places where we need translation of/in components, UI usertags etc. The patches are used by me a while and noticed no problems. My idea is to apply them to 4.8.x if no one objects, otherwise to 4.9.x. I hope it applies clean to the vanilla sources, because I ripped it out of a patch set. Please tell me your opinion about this.
