Sorry, I don't know enough about your installation to be that specific.  
And I am not knowledgeable enough yet to know where all the stuff really 
belongs.  For example, I installed the RPM's and it dropped very similar 
looking directory trees in /var/lib/interchange and /usr/lib/interchange.  
I don't know which one was being referenced by which code/config file.  
When I installed the tarball, The distribution appears to have landed in 
/usr/local/interchange, which is actually simpler to deal with, although 
breaks with the RedHat tradition.

BTW, I found the tarball install to be slightly different, and it alerted 
me to the fact that I was missing yet another CPAN module that the rpm 
install and config had missed.  A helpful pointer I got a few days ago was 
to use the tarball.  It helped.

I just happened to notice that your example was lacking write perms for 
group, and if you are getting create errors, this could be a reason why.
