If you saw an "Internal Server Error" (http error 500) in your browser in 
conjunction with this, then it is almost certainly a problem with the 
permissions and/or ownership of the cgi link file. Make sure that the 
permissions on the link file are 755 (rwxr-xr-x), that the ownership meets 
any requirements your system might have (i.e., particular group membership 
required for suexec, for instance), and you can also try toggling the group 
suid bit (chmod g+s (or g-s) linkfilename).
