[ic] [if file ...] tag

Tests for existence of a file. Useful for placing
image tags only if the image is present.

    [if file /home/user/www/images/[item-code].gif]
    <IMG SRC="[item-code].gif">
    [/if]


I have tried but it doesn't work.

here is what I did

[set xx_code]NY100[/set]
    [if file /home/user/www/images/[scratch
xx_code].gif]
     The image exists
    [/if]

the if condition doesn't work:

then I tried

    [if file /home/user/www/images/NY100.gif]
     The image exists
    [/if]

it works.

Is [if file ..] tag allow tag code?  if so, why my
scratch variable doesn't work in the tag?

what did I do wrong?
