Hi, Thank you for your help.  The 'whoami' command is not on my system.  Because it is used only once in Makedirs, I hard coded the " |sed 
-e 's/^[^(]*(\([^)]*\)).*$/\1/ " that Marty suggested, into Makedirs replacing whoami (not as Marty suggested).  That works, however, I am 
still running into problems in the next steps of Makedir.  I am putting in breakpoints to track down what is failing. 
  However, progress is being made.
