Yes,

You have to actually edit the template that the page you are trying to 
edit is based on.

If you look at the template for your basic foundation store, you will 
see that the default content type is "content" and not "vertical". If 
you want to use both, you should change it to "ANY". (That's not me 
shouting :-) It really is in all-caps.)
