[ic] comparison of overheads building data in interchange against hold ing data in a field

we have just started using interchange and have a database of over 35,000
products.

I was wondering which would be the best way to present the description of an
item to customers?

  a. hold all relevant parts of the item description in separate fields and
put these together on the page.  e.g.. piece name, size, colour as fields.
 
  b. combine all of these fields in one description field and use this on
the site

using common sense, displaying the one field should be quicker, shouldn't
it?
but how much slower would displaying 3 to 5 fields instead of one?
