Chris,
   Check your products.txt file. I had an experience where I was getting to many quotes. I found that my problem was excel. I entered my products in excel and exported to a txt file. When I did it put quotes around the fields, which caused too many quotes in the navigation bar and in the description.

Might not be the cause for your problem, but worth a look.
