This is XHTML syntax. Standalone tags like <br> are self closing in XHTML.

Interchange generates only HTML tags at the moment (AFAIK), so although 
this tag may display ok in most browsers (not tried it), I'm pretty sure 
it wouldn't validate with a HTML doctype.

BTW are there any plans to support XHTML?
