[ic] undefined catalog error

You might have already done this but didn't state it:

Restart interchange using something like:
su -s /bin/bash interchuser -c '/pathto/interchange/bin/interchange -r'

Look for any messages.

Also you may have to change permissions in the catalog dir before the 
catalog will load.
chown -R interchangeuser /pathto/catalog/catalogname
