I want to refine this a little by saying that requesting any page over
and over rapidly via F5 leads to a bunch of ALERTs.  At that point,
ALERTs happen much more frequently until apache2 is restarted.

There is some kind of a cumulative effect here that I don't
understand.  Any ideas?  Can anyone verify this particular behavior?
