That status parameter was added (by me) four years ago and has never
given me any trouble, nor have I heard any reports of trouble.  I just
tested it on a 5.5 setup a moment ago (the RTFM website uses both 301
and 302 bounces, depending upon the target) and the access_log showed
the correct results.

I don't have any 5.2 setups to test on any longer, but I do know that it
did work with that version.  I don't know what to suggest, other than
either filling the code with debug messages, or hiring someone the fill
the code with debug messages for you.

There are three ways to get something done:

    1. Do it yourself.
    2. Hire someone to do it for you.
    3. Forbid your kids from doing it.
