[ic] Tag Question [page] vs [area]

Hello,

Maybe I forgot the reason, but could someone elaborate why we should 
use the [area] tag over the [page] tag?

It seems much easier coding to use [page sku123]Click here</a> than 
<a href="[area sku123]">Click here</a>.
