$ /usr/bin/perl --version
This is perl, v5.8.5 built for i386-linux-thread-multi
...
$ /usr/local/bin/perl --version
This is perl, v5.8.6 built for i686-linux
Basically if it says "thread-multi" it's threaded, otherwise it isn't.
