[ic] Possible to create alias for IC variable names?

I have the need to call IC variables by other names. For example, I need
a URL such as

http://demo.icdevgroup.org/i/demo1/order?sku_alias=os28044&quantity_alias=10

to function identically to this

http://demo.icdevgroup.org/i/demo1/order?mv_order_item=os28044&mv_order_quantity=10


Rewriting the URL via Apache would work, but seems like a messy
solution. Could this be done in a better way such as a user tag?
