[ic] Shipping error on checkout

Regardless of shipping method selected, I am getting the following error on 
checkout:

There was an error adding the order to the transaction table. It was: import 
into transactions failed: DBD::Pg::st execute failed: ERROR: invalid input 
syntax for type numeric: "12.20SHIPPING Cost ERROR " at 
/usr/local/interchange/lib/Vend/Table/DBI.pm line 1476, chunk 5.

It appears that the shipping cost is being supplied as text rather than 
numeric???
