Ladies and Gentlemen-
This challenge has recently
faced me:
I am selling a travel package. Within this
package, there are 4 items which are optional, and their quantities need to be
independent of the primary package. For example, three couples go in
together and buy three packages. Within this package, however, only the
guys want to go on the trail rides, and only two of the ladies want to go to the
special luncheon.
What I have done for the time being is that a button is
clicked for the package which orders one of everything as a group, using the
number of packages as a main item. They are then taken to the
"shopping cart", which I am passing off as a place to configure their
chosen quantities. Ideally, I would prefer to have boxes for quantities on
the first page where the button is that orders one of everything. Then
that button would order the quantities of those items as they have put in.
To complicate matters, they can choose whether they want the
package to be with or without lodging. The number of "child
packages" is one of the things the user can configure also. There is
one field for adult packages and one for child packages. I would like for
there to be only one pulldown box which sets lodging or no lodging for BOTH of
these and calculates the price accordingly.
As an afterthought, although I haven't researched this much
yet ( I feel that this information will be readily found, but I am not sure just
yet), lodging and tickets are taxed at different rates. I am not sure how
to apply item specific taxes and then total these together in the
checkout/receipt, but keep them separate in my records.
Any innovative advice would be much
appreciated!
