Ordering multiple items

Hiho...
My customer wants to be able to create a pricelist (to hand out to customers
in his real shop) using the data he typed in for the shop (of course he does
not want to do all the typing again :-).
The catalog is sorted by categories and subcategories.
I thought of creating an index-page where he chooses one subcategory and all
items in it are placed in a cart (that looks like his pricelist). Using a
different cart should not be too difficult as MV supports using multiple
carts (*yeah*), but how do I add all items of a subcategory?
The docs talk about "order groups" or" stacking variables on the form".
To use the first I would have taken the first item found as "master-item"
and all other items in this subcategory as sub-items. The "stacked"-version
seems to be easier to implement, but both are based on using forms - I want
to use links instead...
How would you do something like this? Is there perhaps a different method I
am not thinking of by now?
