That's how I started, modifying simple. Running more than one
catalog is the easy part... molding the simple demo to fit your needs
without breaking it is hard. Keep backups. Lots of them.

I don't have any experience with Minimate, yet. I only add
products every few months, so vi has been adequate so far.

I would say the majority of us have printed the manual. Of course,
my employer paid for the paper and ink. Mine has a million Post-It notes
all over it to help me locate sections. Personally, I read the manual over
a bunch of times before really digging into the catalog - that way, even if
I didn't learn something, I could at least recall where it was at in the docs.
Everything else can be learned pretty quickly in the mailing list
(archives) which you can search from http://www.minivend.com. Oh, and a
good healthy understanding of PERL will make life a lot easier.
