I was trying to come up with a way to list products by clicking on an alphabet on the main
index page that would then return all products starting with that alphabet.
for example, I would have a link bar on top like this: A | B | C | D | E | F etc etc...
so when the user clicked on "A", it would list all products that start with A, such as "Ah
my mini goddess vol 1", and "Arc the Lad Vol 1"

I wan't to use the same list code that i've modified from the simple catalog, so i tried
adding a new field to products.asc and named it "AlphaCategory", and under this field i put
the letter i wan'ted it to go under. so for "Arc the Lad vol 1" under AlphaCategory would be
the letter "A".

now i'm trying to use this link to call it:

basically modified from the one i got working using the category field in simple catalog:

the bottom one works, the top one doesn't.   Do I have to define fields somewhere else other
than the products.asc file?
