Hi John!

>We are about to launch our first mvend site.
Good Luck..., You made the right choice...

Most frauds with credit cards are not made on the internet,
they made by phone & duplicated credit cards...,
After all in the internet you should give your address for the
packege will arrive to you..., so somewhere your address is
knowen (altought there are tricks for that too...)

>We will use SSL from VeriSign and PGP encryption's. Credit card info
>will not be stored on the mvend server.
If you will protect your server good, with the correct tools, i dont see
any reason why not to store the CCs on your server...

>1. What are your real life experiences, from a merchant point of view,
>of fraudulent transactions as a percentage of "safe" transactions ?
There will be always frauds..., but signing a service such as cybercash,
ccbill and some other my eliminate most of them..., i dont know
about the USA, but in israel if a customer complains about a fraud
made with his credit card, he get the money back for the
credit company after 4 hours, and the investigation about this fraud start.
(but after the customer get his money first).

>2. How do we convince the client to trust our site if it is "safe" ?
Make sure to get some certifcations (which for them your site
should pass some tests from the certfications giver), such as
Trust-E, BBBOnLine, Bizrate and some others.
they will take care testing your site and giving you the certifcate.
(ofcourse the will take some money for it)

>3. Is there anywhere the list can point us to: on more specific information
>on how to secure an ecommerce site ?
There is not such thing as a secure site or secure e-commerce..., Its not
matter
how much time & money you will invest to make your site secure, there is
always
holes, and that's for any kind of security..., What you can do is to make
your safe
as much as you can..., but not totaly secured., I would use a firewall, and
you can
find some nice gnu prodocts such those.

Good Luck again...,
