You may not need any Perl, it just depends on how you plan to define the 
items and their variations in the products file.  You can loop through 
comma-delimited lists of item modifiers with the [loop] construct; the 
simple demo and docs have examples.  If you need to group a number of items 
by some common value, you can search on that value, and read the found 
items into the <option> tags of a <select> form element.  There are 
probably many other ways.
