Re: [mv] TaxShipping directive using zip codes in NYS
****** message to minivend-users from Eric Paul <epaul@spellbook.net> ******
Ben,
I have a client who has a similar problem. I did the following:
In Catalog.CFG:
Variable TAXAREA NY
Variable TAXRATE
Variable TAXSHIPPING
#a bit further down
SalesTax zip
Then in salestax.asc:
default 0
14083 0.08
And so on. Yep, I have a really big file of zip codes with the associated
tax. And yes, I've missed a few zips, every now and again I get told by
the client that someone from NY didn't get charged tax and I have to go
track down their zip code and figure the tax and add it. Yes, it is very
cumbersome. It is also not the "legal" way to do it according to the NY
DOR because certain zip codes span county lines. But it's the best I've
come up with so far.
If anyone from NY has a better way, I'd be more than happy to hear about it.
Eric
