together a series of demos each with very targeted points and simple syntax
might help the newbies out quite a bit. I think that's a better way to go,
right now sorting through the various parts of the demo can be somewhat
daunting when you first start out.
Whoever suggested the series of demo approach (where we have one to
demonstrate very basic shopping carts, one for cybercash, one geared towards
demonstrating sql interaction, etc..) is really on to something IMHO. <<
Yep, excellent. I agree that the all-singing/all-dancing demo is probably
not the ideal way to learn, and by definition is probably a pain for Mike (I
presume) to maintain. The approach taken in e.g. the O'Reilly Apache book is
perhaps useful: a series of simple examples showing off various
semi-isolated capabilities of the system.
On a related note, one thing puzzles me: while I'm happy for MiniVend to be
free, I'd be even happier if I had the option of paying for a fasttrack
solution. Does anybody sell pre-made template sites?
Specifically: right now I'd be very happy if I could buy a slightly
slimmed-down (& bugfree :)) version of the demo, tailored for CD sales
(grouped by artist) with fixed-rate shipping in just two areas (UK and
abroad), no tax system (VAT included at source), but with
UK/Barclays-specific Cybercash support (V3.2.0.3gb), and UK-centric address
and currency - _so long as_ the purchase price included support and training
to a point where I could expect to maintain it. Email me off list if you can
help...
