Re: [mv] Multistore advise

****** message to minivend-users from Steve & Patti Getzinger <steveandpatti@wubs.org> ******

Here is what I did and I had far more than 6 running under "one roof". I am roughing it
with 4.03 so far and this was done with 3.14. I set up each of the 6 as individual shops
completely controlled by the owners of each store. Now possibly set the mailto variable
to something like sales. I am assuming all the other shops have their own domain names
but even if not this is how I did it. In any case the mailto variable is set to some
alias for that particular shop. Now in your /etc/aliases file (linux) create aliases for
each shop that either mail to just an address at the 7th store or in my case I mailed to
the originating shop and the 7th store. This way both seen what was occurring. It was the
originating shops responsibility to fill the order.

Now I listed all the products.asc files as products files in the 7th stores cfg file. I
ran two searches on the 7th stores site. One was a shop search and one was a product
search. The product search searched all the products.asc files listed in the .cfg file
and the shop search only searched the .asc file of the 7th shop. This behavior came
through creating search criteria in hidden fields. Forgot the actual name maybe a search
profile which you can list in a file somewhere in MV. Like I said it's been awhile :) In
the 7th stores products file what I listed was information on the other shops and not any
products, that was the individual store owners responsibility.

That's it from what I remember about it all. Order flow is a simple matter of email
aliases no matter how many stores or domains you are running. I will say this though ALL
sites were on one physical machine. I never did pull in from outside the box. I assume
you could with perl without much problem but I have not done it yet. Hope this helps in
some way and as with everything there is always more than one way to skin a cat :) Have a
great day.
