OK, here it is:

Minivend 4 seems to lose session id and create a new one when submitting
a form if cookies aren't enabled at browser side (and at catalog's
configuration file too, I think). This doesn't happen on older Minivend
3.14.

I found out that basic demo has also following text in
pages/basket.html, are these things the same?

You must have cookies set to leave the basket. Check out now or forever
lose your shopping cart.
