[mv] seg fault (no core dump) when starting minivend

I've downloaded minivend 4.04 and am trying to get it to run on a Mac OS X server. I ran the make without any difficulties. I was also able to install the basic demo. However, when I try to run minivend, it caused a segmentation fault. At one point, this crashed apache. I was able to restart apache when I restarted the server, but was still getting the seg faults. The dialog is below:

[www:local/minivend/bin] liz% ./minivend
Low traffic settings.
Calling MiniMate....
Segmentation fault

Regarding seg faults, the web page's support area says: "If this happens when you run the MiniVend test or server, it is always a Perl that has a problem" We have version 5.005_2 which I believe came with our OS. When I give the command 'perl -v', it seems to confirm this:

[www:local/minivend/bin] root# perl -v
This is perl, version 5.005_02 built for rhapsody

Do I need to get a newer version of perl built for rhapsody?
Any help with this issue would be appreciated.
