I finally got this thing setup and I wanted to post my 1,2,3 steps I took.

1) Install MiniVend (used .rpm and all the demos work)

2) ./makecat test  Choose to use MySQL but came up with an error because it
won't let you define a password.

3)  edit catalog.cfg for my test cart and made theses changes:

Variable	SQLDSN	dbi:mysql:minivend
### minivend is a database that I created

Variable	SQLUSER username
Variable	SQLPASS password
###I uncommented them and put in the right info

4)  Restarted minivend (/etc/rc.d/init.d/minivend restart)

Then minivend magically populated the database with all the tables it
needed.
