Eran, I know it's a bit far off, but I am asking, because I think about a
lot of folks in developing countries who approach a PC for the first
time. Many have older hardware or never been exposed to a PC. These folks
can actually make a free decision about what platform to use, as they in
general haven't gotten accustomed or exposed to Windows that much.

I am trying to find out if Linux and its range of application software
is ready to replace the whole set of tools for web design.

For many women there, it's an achievement to become a good typist,
secretary, accountant etc. It would be nice to see those women and
their families as future independent web page designers, setting up
their own shops, themselves. It would be nice to see decision makers
supporting the Linux platform there at schools and universities. It's
cheaper and more reliable and more flexible. It's already done at some
places.

If new PCs come preconfigured with RedHat, they will come preconfigured with
a lot of nice stuff, including MiniMan etc. I could imagine there comes a
time where you wouldn't need to be fluent on both platforms and can make a
choice for one platform only.

That's why I like to take a snapshot of how many people already can do the
whole range of tasks with unix tools and skip the Windows platform
altogether.

It's getting off-topic and I don't feel quite comfortable, but it was
a try to get a feedback on how many of you use Unix as web page
development environment.
