One story....
When I started working with Minivend a couple of years ago, I did
everything on a windows box, then ftp'd it to the server - and I used an
ftp client for most basic unix commands as well (chmod, etc). I would only
run telnet to install Minivend or run makecat.
Since then, I done a near-complete turn-around (with much of the change
occuring recently), and do almost everything via telnet sessions: between
tools like pico, vi, sed, the unix utils and command-line perl there is
little that I need to do offline, other than work with graphics and bulk
work with database source files.
Usually, when starting a new project, I will use a WYSIWYG HTML tool in
Windows to "draft" the site and nail down the look and structure. From
there I usually switch to unix text editing and I don't look back.
