That sounds good as far as picking the best of easy database package,
but the idea of maintaining two databases for a single project sounds
like a big headache to me. You'd have to know the particularities of
each to handle crashes and backups, etc.
I use Postgres for dozens of projects of varying sizes, and have always
been happy with the performance. I think when MySQL really pulls ahead
on performance in a noticeable way is when you have a huge amount of
hits, maybe 100,000 hits a day (I'm saying that without having tested
it).
I think in a lot of cases Postgres provides great performance in
addition to it's nice additional features.
