[mv] V4.04: Place Order button takes me back to checkout page with empty cart

Please help, I'm not sure what's happening...
I was able to place orders successfully earlier yesterday. I was modifying
checkout.html, basket.html etc. (mainly chainging page layout and taking out
unnecessary lines), and now when I click the Place Order! button in the
checkout.html page, it takes me back to the checkout.html page and tells me
no items is in my basket. If I go back to the basket page, items are still
there. At this point, I have to exit my browser completely because I cannot
go back to the checkout page from the basket page any longer (it keeps going
back to the basket page). I've copied back the default checkout.html page
thinking I messed up something in my checkout.html, but it still doesn't
work. I've also deleted the catalog and recreated it. Any idea why this is
happening?
