[mv] Error installing minivend

I can install Minivend and Interchange. But my colleague is trying the same and
gets an error in the make test:

Server-un1x mode is OK (Step 1) The same goes for server-startup.
But 2 link/unixmode is not OK, and also 3 (OK=def:1 connect: connection
refused).

Same with test 5 and 6.

What is wrong? This is the same for both Minivend and Interchange, and there's
nothing using port 8786.
