[mv] Perl 6 and Interchange's Perl developers

******    message to minivend-users from "birgitt" <birgitt@cais.com>     ******

 background article to this question:
 http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=00/07/19/203221

A rewrite of Perl was announced. As well as a somewhat confusing
statement about who will do what and how this will be done.

How will Akopia make sure that their Interchange package will be
compatible with whatever Perl comes out in the future ?

How "open" is the p6p community to Akopia's Interchange developers ? I
don't understand what a tightly focused mailing list and a community's
rewrite (as Mr. Wall was quoted) means in practical terms and how they
match. Isn't that a bit scary considering how much Perl code is used
in e-commerce ?

<quote:>
The group hopes to re-shape Perl community, too. Instead of one
all-encompassing perl5-porters list, tightly focused mailing lists
with a terminal lifespan will be formed. To start off, the mailing
list bootstrap at perl.org will be for discussion of the beginnings of
the project. Like most, if not all, other new lists, when it has
fulfilled its purpose, it will be closed.

 Wall said, "Perl 5 was my rewrite of perl ... I think this should be
the community's rewrite of perl, and the community's rewrite of the
community."
<end of quote>
