[mv] Multiple Customer Name Fields and Cybercash

****** message to minivend-users from jyu@worldwatch.org ******

Hello,

We've added an order logging feature to our store to facilitate integration with
our in-office inventory and order processing. It takes the data from the
receipt and logs it to a flat-text database.

Something which our consultant is requesting, however, is the use of separate
fields for first, middle, and last names, rather than a single field for the
full name. This isn't a problem to implement as far as getting it to log
properly and look nice and all -- it's just a matter of adding more fields and
processing them appropriately.

Before I go ahead with this, though, I am wondering if splitting up the name
would cause any problems with any of the backend operation of Minivend --
specifically with Cybercash. My understanding of credit card verification is
that the cardholder name is required as well as the number and expiration date.
If for example we use the 'name' field for the first name, 'middle' for the
middle, and 'last' for the last name, we would only be verifying with the first
name.

Am I correct in my assumption? An obvious solution to this would be to use
'name' as a special Cardholder's Name field, with something else entirely for
the billing names, but I'd like to keep things as simple as possible. Or are my
concerns unfounded?

Thanks,
