[mv] minivend tags showing

I had to manually change the permissions on the files that were giving errors. Not sure why the makecat program did not take care of that. If someone can shed some light on that situation I would greatly appreciate it.
Now for the latest problem. I can check the server and it is running. When I go to the sample pages or the pages in the cgi-bin directory I get the pages, yet the minivend tags are showing on the page also. This would tell me that the pages are not passing through the server, yet it is running. Now if I do the su -c "/usr/local/minivend/bin/minivend -r" minivend command it says the following:

The Minivend server was not running (/usr/local/minivend/etc/minivend.pid).
Low traffic settings.
Calling MiniMate....
Minimate is loaded.
MiniVend V4.04
Configuring catalog basic...done.
Configuring catalog sexybl...done.
Configuring catalog simple...done.

...now when I look in the error.log the very last line says the following:

- - - [02/August/2000:03:29:05 -0400] - - Low traffic settings.
- - - [02/August/2000:03:29:05 -0400] - - Calling MiniMate....

- - - [02/August/2000:03:36:38 -0400] - - Couldn't open '/usr/local/minivend/etc/minivend.pid': Permission denied

now when I do a locate minivend.pid it says it is at /var/run/minivend/minivend.pid

I am not sure why it is putting its pid there. I can not find any kind of a confige file to change where it runs it PID. If anyone could shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it.

A little background I have read and reread and looked and search ola mailing list messages to no help. I am running redhat higher version. minivend was installed by the system admin and owner of the machine. I have root access and can change what I want. Please advise my newbieness.
Thanks
Dan Garwood
