Re: [mv] Using Interchange as a POS system.
****** message to minivend-users from Chris Rapier <rapier@psc.edu> ******
Other people have chimed in on this so I thought I will as well.
Its more fun that way.
1) Barcode scanner shouldn't be a problem. Its just another input device
and will work on a lower level than the minivend stuff.
2) You shouldn't see minivend solely as a shopping cart system. Its
really a database interface and presentation layer API. However, its
suitability for this task should only be determined after a strict
examination of what your needs from a POS system are. Once you have
these fundamental criteria in place then you should start looking at
various solutions. The reason for this is to get away from the "when you
only have a hammer every problem looks like a nail" syndrome.
3) Personally I think it sounds like a neat application. I think its
more than feasible and you shoudl be able to get a prototypie up and
running inside of a couple of days. However, like I said, spend some
time figuring out the order flow and your needs before you settle on
using interchange nee minivend.
