Well, sure, it's not up there with the more serious problems, but it's still
an unexpected behavior.

Unknown, of course, but some percentage above zero.  I never cease to be
amazed at the things people do.

Well, their browser display might get corrupted like mine did.  Or, (this
happens to me regularly) a temporary glitch in Internet connectivity may
result in an error message (wiping out the display), and people learn that
often a refresh will bring it back.

That's the one thing that really helps this be not as serious as it could
be.  One would certainly hope the user notices this!  But you can't
guarantee it (people get distracted, etc.), especially on larger orders
and/or if the system is set to increment the quantity.  Even more worrisome
is their reaction after they notice it-as usability experts like Jakob
Nielsen (www.alertbox.com) point out, they can lose trust and leave, perhaps
permanently.
