[mv] Truncated pages
****** message to minivend-users from "Joe Kupferling" <kupf@blarg.net> ******
I posted a message almost a month ago explaining how MV appeared to be
truncating the pages. All of the replies I got pointed to the version of
Apache I was running, version 1.2.5. Those of you who replied said version
1.2.5 had problems and that you solved your truncating issues by upgrading.
It took a while, but our ISP finally upgraded Apache to version 1.3.12, but
the pages are still being truncated, even after I reinstalled MV.
I've had our ISP look at the Apache logs, there aren't any signs that the
kernel process for the number of child processes has been exceeded, so it
doesn't look like resources are being depleted by MV. Nothing has been
printed in the catalog error log, but I do get one error in the MV error
log:
START server (24189) (INET and UNIX)
INET mode server failed to start on port 7787: bind: Address already in
use at /users/redhook/mvend/lib/Vend/Server.pm line 995.
Continuing in UNIX MODE ONLY
Clearly you can see I'm running this on port 7787 because another user is
already running MV. I checked all files containing any instances of port
7786, changed those to 7787 just to be sure, and ran the compile_link
program. After recompiling, I also did another makecat just to be sure. I
still got truncated pages. Now here's another thing that caught my eye,
when I created the first catalog, this error popped up:
checking for socket in -lsocket... no
checking for gethostbyname in -lnsl... no
Upon looking in the config.log file in the /mvend/src/ directory, it says:
configure:696: checking for socket in -lsocket
configure:715: cc -o conftest -g conftest.c -lsocket 1>&5
ld:
Can't locate file for: -lsocket
and another few lines which read:
configure:762: cc -o conftest -g conftest.c -lnsl 1>&5
ld:
Can't locate file for: -lnsl
In addition, my IS manager and I looked for a pattern in the truncated
pages. There is no real pattern, after reloading, the pages appear to be
truncated in a slightly different spot everytime.
And that, more or less, is where I'm at. If you want to see this for
yourself, go to http://www.redhook.com/rhtest
Details:
MV 4.04a
Apache 1.3.12
DEC Alpha running Digital UNIX 4.0D
Perl version 5.005_03
Hopefully someone knows how or why this is happening.
