Yes, $rate = int ('[data taxgroups rate [item-field taxgroup]]'),
but that is not what you want.

Try instead:

[perl tables=taxgroups interpolate=1]
$rate = $Tag->data('taxgroups', 'rate', '[item-field taxgroup]');
