Re: [mv] Upgrading from Minived 4 to Interchange.
My $.02 - I have built one (very simple - 5 pages total including checkout
and 'receipt') with Interchnage 4.6.0. - started on the day it was
released, as a matter of fact. I installed a demo catalog to save some
time, then moved all the pages out and started from scratch. In this way,
MV to IC was an easy transition, and Chris is quite right, the UI is a tool
and an adjunct for your catalog, but it can be ignored if need be. In my
case, the client wanted it, but right away he needs custom Admin pages for
his back-end order management, because there appears to be no way to
customized them through browser-based manipulations to meet his needs.
I have not spent alot of time with Interchange and the Construct/Admin
package, but from what I can see, the Admin's functionality seems fairly
dependent on known aspects and structure of the Construct store (unlike
MiniMate, that unpretty but quite useful predecessor and general-purpose
tool, which could give you a quick and dirty look into whatever kind of
monster you had built). Once you start to customize the front end, Admin's
inflexibility shows - you are going to have to do some work on the back-end
as well. This is not meant to be a jab at Akopia, but I get the feeling
from reading this list that the limitations are not as apparent to
Interchange users as perhaps they should be...
